Big News: LA Unified endorses March
The March for California’s Future scored an official nod of approval today when the Los Angeles Unified School District became the first K-12 district in California to vote on a resolution supporting the goals and objectives of the march. The resolution, sponsored by Board of Education member Steven Zimmer, was approved with flying colors, with not an ounce of controversy anywhere in sight.
Before the vote, LAUSD parents and leaders of labor unions CSEA and CFT spoke briefly in favor of the resolution. The comments were followed by a three-minute live video feed on a huge screen at the front – featuring core marcher and substitute teacher David Lyell lifting his bare feet in a close-up to the camera and noting that unlike several of the other core marchers, he still had not gotten blisters on his feet.
The Board soon afterward took their vote – approving the popular resolution so speedily that even the Board Secretariat wasn’t sure the motion had already been seconded and approved.
