Dinuba Miguel Contreras

On Thursday we made it to Dinuba, birth and resting place of great labor leader Miguel Contreras. After meeting Cesar Chavez, Miguel became an activist with the United Farm Workers. He rose through the ranks to become, in 1996, the executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. We began our walk yesterday in high spirits.

After we arrived in downtown Dinuba we rode to the cemetery where Miguel rests. We were met there by family and friends, including Pablo Contreras, Miguel's brother, and his wife, Maria Elena Durazo, who succeeded Miguel at the LA County Fed.
