Voter Registration at College of the Sequoias in Visalia

Yesterday from 11 AM to 1:30 PM we passed out petitions to overturn the 2/3 majority and registered voters. We arrived at campus when many students were milling out in the quad or in the cafeteria having lunch. I found that these students were the most impressed with our march: "Wait, you're walking from L.A. to Sacramento?! You're crazy."

Manny and I spent a good amount of time just talking to people and drawing them over to the table we set up smack dab in the middle of the quad. When we were packing up, I noticed that Manny started filling out a voter registration form.

What was interesting about this moment is that Manny, 21 years old, didn't think much of not having been registered until now, at least in how he vocalized it to me. He simply did not have a reason to vote before. Now he does. Voting is a fundamental right in this country but sometimes that doesn't mean much until that process is made personal.

The effects of these budget cuts are personal. All of us are affected.

That's why we will continue setting up tables, passing out flyers and meeting Californians in each every town we pass through all the way to the Sacramento State Capitol Building!
