Maggie Morales, Sunshine Inn

We spent our 2 nights in Turlock at the Sunshine Inn in rooms provided by the CSEA. It was a small hotel, staffed by only a few people. When we first arrived, one member of the staff, Maggie Morales, seemed especially moved by our cause. She immediately brought cots, coffee and extra towels for those of us doubling up. She warmly hugged me and David Lyell after only a brief conversation: "I got chills when I heard what you guys were doing."

The next day she did the same thing.

Before we left, Irene mentioned that Maggie worked 3 jobs to support her 3 kids. She said that Maggie's oldest son was disillusioned about the entire notion of college if it meant that he'd just have to struggle like he's seen her mother do for so long. So Maggie's cheerfulness, ebullience and optimism comes in spite of her daily struggle. She called us heroes, but after speaking with her, we all know who the true heroes on this march have been.
