UC Davis Picnic Day!

Today we were slated to attend "Picnic Day" at UC Davis. We didn't know what to expect. Turns out, we were a part of the largest student-run parade in the country. UC Davis has over 30,000 students and between students who came out and alumni, the parade was huge! There were dozens of floats, representing everything from Veteran soldiers to KDVS, UC Davis' local radio station. We entered the parade and made our presence known. We passed out flyers and spread the word about the big Sacramento rally on April 21st. There are 3 busses scheduled to go from the campus to the State Capitol on the 21st.

Near the end of the parade, we reached a float with a fake body resting on a bed of flowers. It was held up by 4 students with a sign that said "RIP Public Education." In the midst of positive and light-hearted floats, "RIP Public Education" revealed the troubling state of the UC system. In addition to the 30% tuition hike, UC Davis is also facing cuts to sports like water polo and rowing.
