Voices from the March (Modesto)

After a long 16.7 miles from Escalon to Manteca, Jim, Gavin, Raul and I went to a minor league baseball game in Modesto. The Nuts, as they call them, squared off against the San Jose Giants. There's something to be said for getting to a game in the 3rd inning and paying 10 bucks a pop for seats four rows from the field. I paid almost 10 bucks for small fries and a drink from a "McDonalds" at the Staples Center in Los Angeles a few weeks before the march started. Here, hot dogs--full real, hot dogs--were $2.50 each.

Yesterday was packed with marches and rallies in Modesto. The core marchers convened at the Central Labor Council in Modesto where more than 100 UDW members were already waiting for us. They lead the march, with the help of local police, from the CLC to the Modesto City Supervisor's Building, where we had a mini-rally there. "We they say cutback we say fight back!" UDW members cried out. The proposed cuts could take away more than 500,000 jobs from in home support services alone. As the video shows, when we reached the Supervisor's Building in the middle of downtown, people took notice.
